US$5 Billion National Tourism Recovery and Growth Strategy ambitious, yet achievable: ED

President Emmerson Mnangagwa said the high growth target of the National Recovery Growth Strategy launched on Thursday which seeks to achieve a US $5 billion tourism economy by year 2025 is ambitious and yet achievable.

The launch of the Growth Strategy coincided with the official re-opening of the Victoria Falls rainforest after it was closed for 100 days due to Covid-19 as he led the re-start of the sector on Thursday in the resort town of Victoria Falls after being closed for 100 days due to Covid-19 regulations.

“The National Tourism Recovery and Growth Strategy we are launching , is anchored on Zimbabwe’s vision to be a prime international tourist destination based in the judicious and sustainable exploitation of the unique assets of nature, culture, heritage and the built environment.

“The strategy is informed by the Government’s Vision 2030 to become an upper middle income economy characterised by increased investment, decent jobs and populace free from poverty and corruption”

“The high growth target of this strategy, which seeks to achieve a US$5 billion tourism economy by year 2025 is ambitious and yet achievable, requiring investments in accommodation, infrastructure while at the same time creating the much needed jobs. He said.
