He has earned himself the Madamara tag in the streets of Bulawayo after the release of his single Madamara, KG has managed to charm many at every Bulawayo show he performs.
Real name Khulekani Zondo, KG said he draws inspiration from South African Freddie Gwala affectionately known as Madamara, which pushed him to pen a song dubbed Madamara.
The track talks about how the Bulawayo born rapper and singer resembles Gwala, sings like him and also gets into to trouble sometimes like the controversial Gwala.
“I grew up listening to Gwala, he is the reason I ventured into music and every time I listen to his songs I am inspired to create something new,” KG said.
The pint sized KG has performed at a number of Bulawayo shows- Ibumba festival, Bulawayo International Art Fair.
KG’s music has been welcome into the Zimbabwean Hip Hop circle as it brings an old school aspect to the genre with tracks such as Yizo Yizo quickly becoming street bangers after their release.
Yizo Yizo is an appreciation of his blessings and how he is content with what he has achieved so far.
“We usually complain a lot about the problems we are facing up to an extent where we ignore the blessings we have and our achievements no matter how little they are hence Yizo Yizo,” he added.
His act at the inaugral Bulawayo Music festival where he performed alongside Bulawayo’s best e Hip Hop artistes such as P.O.Y and Guluva Se7en was well received.
Gwala who spent eight years in jail for car theft is well known for tracks such as Kipi Dhamani, Tshidi Skhelekhele, Into yenzayo siyayizonda which is popular with Highlanders FC supporters, Amacriminal , Amadamara among others.
