Its a new dawn for the Zim Hip-Hop awards which celebrating its 10th anniversary this year. The awards organisers held a media launch at Sabela Studios in Bulawayo on Wednesday. Below is what you need to know about this years award ceremony.
New Sponsor
The Zim Hip-Hop awards revealed Pogues Irish Whisky as the main and title sponsor for this years awards and beyond. Pogues is an Irish Whiskey brand distributed in Zimbabwe through Liquor Supplies whose branches are found in Bulawayo, Victoria Falls and Harare. As part of the sponsorship deal, the awards will rebrand to The Pogues Zim Hip-Hop Awards.
“The Pogues Whiskey is new to Zimbabwe and the owners believe Africa is the world of expression, colours, adventures, music, warmth and creative tools. Scholars would argue that it is the birthplace of music and dance.
“We profess that Africa is the cradle of hip-hop. The 2020 edition of the awards will therefore be known as The Pogues Zim Hip Hop Awards.” Said Tarry Mutangadura, representing Liquor Supplies.
Awards gets new board
Aldrian Beefy Harrison, the awards Chairman revealed that they have engaged a new board that have helped bring a new lease of life.
“We have a new board, they have helped us come up with what we have this year. As you can see even this launch, its something new and refreshing, we will announce who is part of the board in due course. We promise you the best of shows this year,” he said.
Date of Awards and host City
Aldrian Beefy Harrison revealed that the awards will be held on December 12 but could not reveal which city will host the 10th edition of the jamboree.
Awards Production
With the current Covid-19 regulations the awards might take a virtual or conventional route.
“The awards will happen either virtually or conventionally depending on the state of the Covid-19 regulations at the time of production,” said Beefy.
Nomination Process
The nomination entries will start on October 1 and submissions will be done through the Zim Hip Hop website and physical centres to be announced. Closing date for entries will be 30 October and adjudication will start on 4 November while nominees will be announced on 12 November.
New Category
A new category for Artiste of the decade has been added. Its meant to celebrate 10 years of the awards as well as an artiste who have been excelling in the last decade of the awards.
